The FA have been charged on four counts following Sunday’s final
The English FA have been hit with four charges following the chaos that ensued during and after England’s Euro 2020 final against Italy this past Sunday.
As well as numerous scraps breaking out both inside and outside the stadium during and post-match, a number of fans without tickets managed to break into the stadium, filling it beyond Covid capacity and breaching health guidelines.
They have been hit with the following charges:
- Invasion of the field of play by its supporters – Article 16(2)(a) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR)
- Throwing of objects by its supporters – Article 16(2)(b) DR
- Disturbance caused by its supporters during the national anthem – Article 16(2)(g) DR
- Lighting of a firework by its supporters – Article 16(2)(c) DR
This comes just a few days after the FA were officially fined for incidents including a laser pointer being shone at Kasper Schmeichel during the Denmark game.
UEFA said in a statement that “Disciplinary proceedings have been opened” and that a “UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation into events involving supporters which occurred inside and around the stadium.”
As well as fights breaking out in the stadium, the concourse and around the exterior of Wembley, fans were heard booing the Italian national anthem and a streaker managed to make his way onto the pitch.
The full extent of all the incidents noted remains unclear but it is clear that the entire occasion didn’t go according to plan either on the pitch or off it.
