Kane has pressed the nuclear button

Harry Kane has ‘no plans’ to return to Hotspur Way until he is granted his move to Manchester City, as reported by The Athletic.

On Monday morning, Kane pressed the nuclear button in his pursuit of an exit by failing to report to training, leaving no doubts as to how desperately he wants out this summer.

The Athletic’s report also states that the England captain was in contact with a non-English City player over the weekend, expressing his desire to join the Premier League champions.

Spurs are expected to sanction their star player with a hefty fine if he does not return to training for the remainder of pre-season, and Daniel Levy remains adamant that his most valuable player is not for sale for anything less than £150 million, and even a bid of that magnitude would not be a guarantee.

Kane’s desire to move on from Spurs is understandable to everyone in football, but his conduct this week has attracted criticism from fans of all clubs, and people at the club are reported to have labelled his actions ‘unprofessional’ and ‘disrespectful’.

Kane has previously said in an interview with Gary Neville that it will be his choice when he leaves the club, not that of chairman Daniel Levy.

However, there are three years remaining on his contract and Levy is a famously difficult negotiator. Going on strike, just as Gareth Bale did in 2013, will certainly make it more difficult for Spurs to resist a bid of more than £100 million, but ultimately the power lies with Tottenham.

The Athletic also report that City are willing to bid as high as £130m, and given how perfectly Kane suits City’s system, one can understand why.
