Manchester City have confirmed that defender Benjamin Mendy has been charged by the police and subsequently suspended by the club.

A club statement reads:
“Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.
“The matter is subject to a legal process and the Club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete.”
Joining from AS Monaco following their 2016/17 Ligue 1 success, Mendy has struggled to settle in at Manchester City. He featured 19 times in the league during the 2019/20 season, and played just 13 games last year.
