The latest season will look and feel more real than ever
Hit comedy series Ted Lasso is about to get its biggest makeover in preparation for its third season after it struck a reported £500,000 licensing deal with the Premier League and Apple TV according to The Athletic.
The agreement will allow the show to have an access-all-areas feel to it, with archive footage, kits, badges and the trophy itself all allowed to be used in the programme.
Ted Lasso become a major hit and is currently Apple TV’s number one rated show across many of its major international markets, scooping countless awards in the process, including last month’s Emmy awards where it was named as outstanding comedy series.
The show is based on a fictional world where a recently divorced football club owner takes control of AFC Richmond, hiring Ted Lasso in the process, who has no knowledge on the global game of football, in an act to sabotage and destroy the team her ex-husband adores.
Lasso, played by Jason Sudeikis, meanwhile goes the opposite way as his enthusiasm and overall positive spirit instead helps to win over his playing squad and become a favourite of the public and media.
Previously, it is rumoured that members of the Premier League hierarchy were originally not too keen on the idea of the show, however after seeing the success of Ted Lasso, they’ve changed their tune and have seen the potential the programme has.
It’s believed that members of the Premier League have noticed the increase in numbers of people watching the Premier League as a result of the programme and hope the lucrative deal will help to bridge the gap between TV and football.
