Wan-Bissaka had been banned for two games

UEFA have reduced the length of Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s Champions League ban to one game and he will now be available for Manchester United’s tie against Atalanta on Wednesday night.

As reported by the Athletic, UEFA conducted a review into Wan-Bissaka’s suspension after the United full-back had been given a two-match ban – of which he served one against Villarreal – after being shown a straight red in the defeat to Young Boys in September.

In a statement from the European football governing body, they said: “The appeal lodged by Manchester United has been upheld.

“Consequently, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body decision of 23 September 2021 is amended as follows: To suspend Manchester United player, Mr. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, for the next one (1) UEFA club competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible, for rough play.”

The news will come as a major boost to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with United struggling defensively in the right-back department during their previous Champions League game, where Diogo Dalot didn’t look at his best.

United are currently third in their group having won one and lost one of their two games so far and after losing their last two games at home before the international break, the pressure is on Solskjaer to lift the mood at Old Trafford and secure an important win.

Meanwhile, there are also doubts over whether Harry Maguire will be fit to play whilst Raphael Varane has been ruled out for a few weeks. Wan-Bissaka has played every minute in the Premier League this season and his performances are vital from a defensive perspective.

The 23-year-old is also likely to feature this weekend against Leicester City as United look to move back to the top of the table.
