A lifeline for Solskjaer, but he must prove his worth quickly

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been given three games to turn his fortunes around and save his job at Manchester United, according to the Telegraph.

Officials at the club want to give the Norwegian time to prove his worth, but are also not afraid to make a quick change should a repeat performance of their 5-0 defeat to Liverpool occur.

It won’t be easy for Solskjaer either given that the three games are trips to Tottenham Hotspur and Atalanta followed by a home game against local rivals Manchester City, who are much better than them.

United haven’t won a league game since mid-September and the overwhelming consensus amongst supporters is that a change is needed in order for the club to sustain – what at the minute is an unlikely – title challenge.

Members of the hierarchy met on Monday to discuss what was the best solution for the club, with the majority agreeing that they want to see the current boss turn it around, but weren’t ignoring the fact that results haven’t been good enough and they won’t be afraid to make a change if necessary.

Amid the constant rumours surrounding Solskjaer’s position, several names have been touted with Antonio Conte seeming like the favourite, providing he is given certain assurances by the club.

However despite Conte’s interest, there are doubts across the board given the Italian’s regimented style which they are cautious about following their spell under Jose Mourinho.

The report also suggests that United are biding their time over a decision on Solskjaer’s future as they are unsure as to whether there is a suitable candidate from within the club to take over temporarily while they search for a permanent manager.

There could even be potential that the Red Devils wait until the international break, which follows after the derby game against Man City, where they will have 14 days to appoint someone before their next fixture which is against Watford.
