The Ipswich Town Under-23s manager is “undertaking tests”
Former England international Kieron Dyer is in hospital after Ipswich Town confirmed the Under-23s manager is “undertaking tests.”
In a statement on the official Ipswich Town website the club said: “The Club can confirm that Town U23 manager Kieron Dyer is currently undertaking tests in hospital.
“Everyone at Ipswich Town Football Club sends their best wishes to Kieron at this time. We ask everyone to respect Kieron’s privacy, and we will be making no further comment on the matter.”
Dyer suffered a collapsed lung last month when filming on the Channel 4 show Celebrity SAS: Who Dares wins in which he suffered a cracked rib, which as a result, punctured his lung.
In an interview with the Mirror, the 42-year-old spoke of the pain he experienced whilst filming on the show.
He said: “I started screaming with the pain.
“My body shut down, my body was just breaking down and that was the end for me. I got taken to hospital and my broken rib had punctured my lung and it had collapsed.
“I juts couldn’t breathe and that’s when I keeled over.”
Dyer then went to admit that initially after the injury, he took painkillers to try and subside the pain but after being in so much pain one night, a conversation with the medics led to him withdrawing from the show.
“I’ve never been in a situation when I’ve been that breathless before,” recalls Dyer.
“You’re just gasping for air. It’s like being strangled, or you’re drowning.
“At the time the medic thought maybe I was having a panic attack. But the pain I was in when they were lifting me up, he knew it was more than that. It was horrible.”
Dyer has been in charge of the Ipswich youth side since last year after returning to the club last year for the first time since 2014 where he acted as a coach.
