A video emerged of West Ham fans singing anti-Semitic songs towards a Jewish passenger on a plane
Two West Ham United supporters have been banned after a video emerged of them singing anti-Semitic chants towards a Jewish passenger on a plane.
The video was filmed ahead of West Ham’s Europa League game away at Genk last week, with supporters singing the chant on the flight to Belgium.
In a statement on West Ham’s website, the club confirmed that an investigation had been taking place.
They said: “West Ham are appalled by the contents of the video circulating on social media and condemn the behaviour of the individuals involved.
“We continue to be unequivocal in our stance – we have a zero-tolerance approach to any form of discrimination.
“Any individuals identified will be issued with an indefinite ban from the club.
“Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the football club and we do not welcome any individuals who do not share those values.”
Manager David Moyes also condemned the behaviour as he said: “I think we are a diverse Football Club and there is no room for discrimination anywhere in the world, not just at West Ham.
“I want this Football Club for being recognised for being a really good football team and I wanted it to be recognised for being a big Club in London and well-respected and to have that, I think you have to have supporters who follow you home and away, which we have.
“We’ve got an incredible support at West Ham but we don’t want any labels attached to us whatsoever regarding discrimination and racism, none of that at all.”
As per the BBC, Essex Police have confirmed that two arrests have been made so far, with an enquiry ongoing.
