“27 minutes for 27 years”
Everton fans are being urged by several of the club’s supporters’ groups to stage a walk out protest during Monday’s game against Arsenal.
The Toffees were convincingly beaten by Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby on Wednesday, prolonging their winless run to eight games.
Fans have grown increasingly frustrated with owner Farhad Moshiri during this time for his lack of communication with them. Moshiri has been at the club for five years, though Everton are yet to make any tangible progress on the pitch.
After a protest banner was unfurled in the away end at Brentford last week and again during the derby, Everton fan groups have united in calling for a walk out during the 27th minute – reflecting the club’s 27-year wait for a trophy – of the Arsenal game.
“27 minutes for 27 years,” read the statement, posted simultaneously by several prominent supporters’ groups.
“27 years without a trophy is unacceptable. Show your feet on 27 minutes during the game against Arsenal on Monday evening and walk out of Goodison Park.
“Let’s show that the incompetence from the top at Everton Football Club cannot continue.”
The sense of frustration that exists amongst the fanbase was palpable throughout the Liverpool game, with one fan captured in a heated exchange with Director of Football, Marcel Brands.
Rafa Benitez remains in charge of the team, although reports on Friday claimed an emergency meeting was being held by the club’s hierarchy with the Spaniard’s future on the agenda.
The club’s last win came at home to Norwich in September. Since then, they have slipped to 14th in the Premier League and are only five points above the relegation zone. They were also eliminated from the Carabao Cup after losing their third round tie with QPR on penalties.
