Salernitana’s current owner is also the owner of Lazio
Serie A side Salernitana have been told that they have until 31 December to find new owners or risk facing expulsion from the Italian top-flight because their current owner is also in charge of another club.
Italian Football Federation (FIGC) President Gabriele Gravina confirmed the news on Tuesday, giving the current side at the bottom of the table just over a week to find new owners, as reported by the MailOnline.
Current owner Claudio Lotito is also the owner of Rome based giants Lazio and league rules state that owners cannot be in control of multiple teams who play in the same division.
The Salerno-based side, who have the likes of Franck Ribery amongst their ranks, were promoted from Serie B for the first time in 23 years last season, but Gravina warned that they wouldn’t receive any special treatment when it came to finding a new buyer.
“There won’t be any let-offs when it comes to the December 31 deadline for the sale of Salernitana,” Gravina said.
“If there are not any new developments by December 31, Salernitana are out.”
The league itself wrote to the FIGC to see if the decision could be deferred until the end of the season as the club have yet to receive a suitable offer from a new buyer, but their stance remained the same.
Salernitana’s most recent game against Udinese was called off last weekend after local health authorities prevented them from travelling to the game due to the club’s current ongoing Covid-19 issues.

It leaves them bottom of the table with eight points from 18 games, five points behind 17th-placed Spezia and three points behind Venezia who currently occupy the final relegation spot.
