“Sometimes I don’t know why they are supporting me so much”
Timo Werner has confessed that he “doesn’t understand” why he receives the support he does from Chelsea fans.
The German has struggled to hit the heights he reached in his native Germany with RB Leipzig and has scored just 12 times in 52 games for the Blues – missing several gilt-edged chances in front of goal.
Despite his Stamford Bridge struggles, Werner has consistently received the backing from fans and currently has six goals in 18 appearances this season.
During an interview with Sky Sports, the 25-year-old opened up about his time at Chelsea and admitted that he can’t understand why supporters have been so patient with him, given his inconsistent goal return.
“Sometimes I don’t know why they are supporting me so much,” he said.
“Because I’m a striker and I want to score but miss chances.”

Werner then added that the backing from the fans inspires him to improve and become a better player.
“It makes it so fun to play in front of the Chelsea fans & when they give the support they give me, it makes me stronger when I miss chances or have hard times,” he revealed.
“I try to give my best every game, 100 per cent to make sure the team are happy.”

Chelsea are currently 13 points behind league leaders Manchester City and travel to Brighton & Hove Albion tonight (Tuesday 18 January) as they look to move back into second in the table.
