Valencia’s first choice before Gary Neville was another Manchester United icon

Almost got the Giggs

Valencia reportedly tried to lure Ryan Giggs before appointing Gary Neville, but the Manchester United legend declined as he hopes to take over from Louis van Gaal.

According to the Daily Mail, Giggs topped the shortlist of potential replacements for Nuno Santo as Valencia owner Peter Lim sought to tap into his Class of 92 contacts, with whom he owns Salford City.

Members of the Valencia board moved to suss out Giggs’ situation, but they were apparently knocked back by the Welshman.

The Mail claim that Giggs confirmed he’s content working as Van Gaal’s assistant, with his long-term focus remaining on replacing the Dutchman when he eventually moves on.

That could be sooner rather than later if Saturday’s defeat to Bournemouth was anything to go by.
