Maguire opened the scoring in Manchester United’s 4-2 victory at Leeds on Sunday, nodding home from a corner (no, really).
After the game, he’d tweeted an image of himself celebrating his goal with a magnificently executed knee slide, right in front of the home supporters.

Upon closer inspection of the photo, it quickly became clear to plenty of Maguire’s followers that something wasn’t quite right. A man’s head had been mysteriously photoshopped onto one of the supporters on the front row, for reasons unknown.

The image only appeared on Maguire’s Twitter, with the original, unedited version posted on his Instagram, only adding to the mystery.
The matter has, however, now been cleared up. The man’s face belongs to Maguire’s friend, a huge Leeds fan who was in attendance at Elland Road on Sunday – though not in shot.
A tweet from the United captain explained that his mate had been giving him plenty of stick in the lead up to the game, prompting the edited photo.
“For everyone asking, it’s my good mate, a big Leeds fan,” he tweeted. “He was at the ground but not in the pic. He’s been giving us some stick all week so thought I’d add him in.”

Maguire and his teammates had looked comfortable by half-time in the game when Bruno Fernandes nodded in United’s second from close range, picked out by Jadon Sancho’s deft cross after a surging run forward from Victor Lindelof.
Again, however, United appeared to be wilting in the early moments of the second half. A freak goal from Rodrigo, whose mis-hit cross deceived David De Gea, halved the deficit before Raphinha turned home Daniel James’ drilled cross from close range within a minute.
The visitors’ quality eventually told, however. Fred, on as a substitute for Paul Pogba, restored Ralf Rangnick’s side’s lead with 20 minutes remaining. Then, with full-time approaching, Anthony Elanga – also on from the bench – made safe of the points.
