Everton fans calls for Lampard to be sacked and replaced by Steve Bruce

Things must be bad at Goodison Park

An Everton fan has called for the Toffees to sack manager Frank Lampard and replace him with Steve Bruce following their 5-0 thrashing at Tottenham.

The Merseyside outfit currently sit in 17th position in the Premier League, just one point ahead of Burnley – having lost four of their last five matches – winning just six games all season.

Lampard’s side, who have accumulated just 22 points from 25 games, have a difficult run-in in their remaining 13 fixtures, including ties against Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham United.

Everton supporters are understandably concerned about the club’s position in the top-flight, with the Toffees’ record of never being relegated in real danger of coming to an end.

This has led to Oliver, who claims to be an Everton supporter, suggesting that the club should sack Lampard and replace him with current West Brom manager Bruce.

The Toffees fan called into talkSPORT to brand Lampard an ‘absolute joke’ before bemoaning the £40million signing of Dele Alli from Tottenham Hotspur in January.

He said: “Lampard is a joke, an absolute joke. He failed at Chelsea, failed at Derby and now he’s failing with us! We’ve got to sack him now!

Asked who he wanted to replace the 43-year-old, he replied: “You’ll laugh at me for this, but I want Steve Bruce. He’s a Premier League manager, he’s an experienced manager and Lampard is inept.”

Despite winning just one league game since taking charge of the Toffees, Lampard insisted that he has ‘no problems’ with the challenge of keeping Everton in the Premier League.

Speaking after the 5-0 defeat at the hands of Spurs, he said: “I have no problems with the challenge.

“I will be ready for them, the players will be ready for them, they have to be ready for them.

“I didn’t walk into the building with a magic wand. The feeling at this club when I came here was we could be going down. It was clear around the city, it was up to me to change that and I thought we had changed that.

“But this is a test of that. I had 20 years as a player, I had hundreds of periods like this.”

Everton’s next Premier League match sees them face-off against Wolves at Goodison Park on Sunday, before hosting in-form Newcastle United on Thursday March 17.
