A reminder of the extreme dangers the entertainment sport poses

WWE star Big E has suffered a broken neck during the latest Smackdown event in Birmingham, Alabama on Friday, March 11.

The 36-year-old wrestler and recent WWE champ – real name Ettore Ewen – managed to muster the strength to record a message from his bed, informing his followers that he will be “alright”.

As you can see, Ewen, who is just one-third of the much-beloved New Day trio, reassured fans that despite a concerning looking neck brace, he can still move all of his digits and that his “strength feels fine”.

The life-threatening injury occurred after fellow athlete Luke Menzies, a former English rugby league player who now wrestles in the franchise under the stage name Ridge Holland, performed a belly-to-belly suplex gone wrong during a tag team match.

Fellow WWE personality Charlotte Flair was wanty of many to offer their words of support on social media, writing: “You’re in my prayers Big E”; meanwhile, industry legend Mick Foley shared the following on Twitter.

Big E, unfortunately, landed on his head and was rushed to hospital immediately, according to TMZ. After undergoing assessment, he was quick to put people’s minds at ease: “Once again, thank you, everybody – I’m going to be alright. I’ll be good. Don’t worry. Go to sleep. Don’t worry about old me, but for real, thank you and I appreciate all of you.”

Get well soon, E.
