Frank Lampard claimed that he broke his hand while celebrating 10-man Everton’s 99th-minute winner against Newcastle United on Thursday night.

Alex Iwobi scored a dramatic late winner against the in-form Magpies to put Everton three points clear of the relegation zone and secure their first league victory since February 12.

The injury-time goal sparked wild celebrations from the Toffees’ players and staff, with boss Lampard revealing that he had broken his hand while celebrating Iwobi’s strike.

Speaking to Amazon Prime after the match, Lampard showed his hand to the pundits and said: “I’ve broken my hand by the way celebrating!

“I’ll take it for three points. I didn’t realise at the time, but as the game carried on my hand started to get a bit more shaky. I don’t care though!”

He later added: “I’ve already spoken to him [club doctor] and he’s given me a couple of pills and I might have a beer or two.”

The game was delayed for eight minutes in the second-half after stewards had to enter the pitch to remove a protestor who had attached himself to a goal post.

The man – who tied himself to the post using a cable around his neck – had a message on his t-shirt that read “Just Stop Oil” along with a link to a website.

It took several members of Everton’s backroom staff to remove the man and deal with the situation, including one who carried a  huge pair of bolt cutters with him to cut the man free.

The Toffees will be looking to progress to the semi-finals of the FA Cup when they travel to Selhurst Park to face-off against Crystal Palace in the quarter-final on Sunday.
