Guus Hiddink reportedly appointed caretaker manager at Chelsea until the end of the season

After all the talk of former Tottenham boss Juande Ramos joining Chelsea until the end of the season, it’s now reported that Guus Hiddink will return to the club as caretaker manager.

According to the Telegraph the Dutchman, who was the short-term replacement for Luiz Felipe Scolari in 2008/09, has the unenviable task of trying to guide the Blues back up the Premier League table.

Chelsea’s dismal start to the campaign under Jose Mourinho sees them languishing in 16th place, just one point above the relegation zone.

But Hiddink’s return may restore some optimism, with the 69-year-old leading the club to the FA Cup in 2009 during his four months in charge.

Hiddink left his role with the Netherlands after a disappointing spell in charge earlier this year, and it is unlikely he is a serious contender to lead Chelsea on a permanent basis.
