The Clarets released a statement on Tuesday which read: “Burnley Football Club are aware of a police incident involving one of our players, Dale Stephens.
“As a football club we uphold strong values and hold all our players and staff to the highest standards. As such, we are treating this incident with the utmost seriousness as legal proceedings are undertaken.
“As a Club, we strongly disapprove of the actions that resulted in such an incident and therefore disciplinary procedures will also be carried out internally.

Alleged incident
The Lancashire Telegraph reported that Stephens was involved in a drink driving incident, in which he has been fined £3,000 and banned from driving for 12 months.
The midfielder attended a court hearing on March 14 in which he pleaded guilty to the offence after it emerged that he had 59mcg of alcohol in his breath, with the legal drink drive limit being 35mcg.
Stephens’ ban is set to last 12 months, but reports have suggested that it could be reduced by three months if the 32-year-old attends, and completes, a driving course approved by the Secretary of State.
The Burnley midfielder has made just four appearances all season for Sean Dyche’s side – with the last of those coming against Watford in February.
