Ten Hag is the heavy favourite to take over at United
Ajax have banned English media from attending their press conference on Saturday so that manager Erik ten Hag can’t be asked about the Manchester United job.
Ten Hag has been heavily linked with the role and is expected to be announced as the new manager imminently following a series of positive discussions with the club.
It’s expected that the Dutchman’s appointment will be confirmed before the end of the season while current interim boss, Ralf Rangnick, will move into a consultancy role.
But despite his much-anticipated arrival at Old Trafford, the 50-year-old’s focus solely lies on Ajax’s game against Sparta Rotterdam as they look to extend their four-point lead at the top of the Eredisivie.
Why don’t ask want English media at the conference?
However, as confirmed by Sky Sports’ Gary Cotterill, English media will not be allowed to attend, nor will questions be allowed to be asked in English.
“As Ten Hag was preparing his team to face Sparta Rotterdam, the media team were busily rejecting the applications from the English media to attend the post-match news conference,” he revealed. “There will be no radio, no newspapers.
“They don’t want him asked, in English, about Manchester United.
“Ajax say he needs to concentrate on winning another [Eredivisie] title. It’s by no means a given – they’re only four points ahead [of PSV] with six games to play.
“If he is to become the Manchester United manager then he is going to have to get used to answering tricky questions twice, sometimes even three times, a week.”
Ten Hag has been planning for life at Old Trafford already
It comes after reports suggested that the Dutchman has requested full authority on incomings and outgoings at Old Trafford as well as renewing contracts.

Ten Hag wants guarantees that he can put his own mark on the squad as he prepares for yet another rebuild in a bid to return to the upper echelons of the Premier League.
