Klopp’s current contract ends in 2024

Liverpool have opened contract talks with manager Jurgen Klopp in a bid to try and keep him at the club beyond his current deal, which expires in 2024.

There had been suggestions that the German would walk away from Anfield at the end of his deal, however there has been fresh hope that Klopp may now be willing to discuss extending terms.

Fenway Sports Group president, Michael Gordon, was in attendance for Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Villarreal in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night and was joined alongside Klopp’s agent, Marc Kosicke, in the stands.

Any deal would likely see the Reds boss earn more than the £10m-a-year he currently earns, however it is believed that money would not be the issue.

As per the Telegraph, Liverpool’s owners have always respected Klopp’s decision when it comes to contracts, noting that the German will only sign to a deal he intends to commit to in full.

Having opened the formal process to sign new terms, there is hope that the German will sign, but they are aware of Klopp’s loyalties to his family. Klopp has previously stated that he will always respect the decision of his family before deciding to sign a new deal.

If Klopp was to stay, it is likely he would go on to celebrate 10 years in charge at the club – with the anniversary approaching in 2025 – but the Liverpool boss’ contract isn’t the only one on the club’s mind.

The saga surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield is also hot conversation. The Egyptian’s contact expires in 2023, with the club trying to tie him down to a new contract, however negotiations have proved to be difficult and the 29-year-old has admitted himself that he isn’t sure what will happen.
