There are a few things that Jurgen Klopp would be well within his rights to blame for his stuttering start at Liverpool.
It would be fair for him to blame injuries to key players, or a need to bolster the squad with January reinforcements. But the wind? That’s taking it too far, surely.
But it seems the former Dortmund coach has done just that, according to quotes in SportBild.
Klopp talking to @BILD_Sport :
– The English wind decide my tactic— Jan Aage Fjørtoft 🇳🇴 (@JanAageFjortoft) December 30, 2015
“Here [in England] we have relatively extreme winds, which you don’t have in Germany,” Klopp said.
“Players who are not from the UK have to get used to the winds. I have to adapt my style as a result as well,” he added, citing Stoke’s opening goal against Manchester United on Boxing Day as an example of the weather affecting a game.
Liverpool can climb to 7th in the Premier League with victory over Sunderland at Anfield, but failure to win would see them enter the new year in 10th – the position in which Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers left the club.
