Jurgen Klopp signs contract extension with Liverpool until 2026

Klopp has been Liverpool manager since 2015

Jurgen Klopp has signed a contract extension with Liverpool that will keep him at the club until 2026, as reported by The Athletic.

The German and his closest staff, whose deals were set to run out in 2024, have agreed two year extensions to their deals at Anfield.

Klopp was expected to take a sabbatical after the 2023/24 season, but the former Borussia Dortmund boss – who took charge of Liverpool in October 2015 – will continue as Reds boss until 2026.

The report adds that the 54-year-old has been ‘re-energised’ by the Merseyside outfit’s hunt for quadruple this season. Klopp recently stated that any decision to extent his deal would be based on whether he had the energy for the demanding job.

Reds were determined to keep Klopp beyond his existing terms

Mike Gordon, the president of Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group, was at Anfield for Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Villarreal 2-0 in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Wednesday night. It is also thought that Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke was also in attendance, sat a few seats away from Gordon.

The Reds’ owners have been keen to extend Klopp’s deal beyond his existing terms, with the German evidently determined to do the same.

Klopp has won the Champions League, Club World Cup, Super Cup, Premier League and Carabao Cup since arriving at the club in 2015.
