We’re all impressed with how Dele Alli has performed this season but this feels a little bit premature.
Jamie Redknapp was talking up the creative Spurs midfielder, who has become a stalwart for Mauricio Pochettino in recent months, and made an extraordinary comparison.
“I can’t tell you how impressed I am with Dele Alli, as a midfield player, a young player, how exciting he is,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.
“He plays with no fear. We were lucky enough to play with Steven Gerrard and he’s the closest thing I’ve seen to Stevie.
“This kid is fantastic, he’s got so many good years ahead of him.”
So impressed by the 19-year-old was Redknapp, who spent three seasons at White Hart Lane, that he’s backed Alli to head up a potential run at the title for Spurs in this, the most open Premier League season in years.
“It’s a case of belief now for Tottenham,” Redknapp said. “Do they want to believe ‘we can win this title this year?’ It’s up for grabs, make no mistake, nobody is taking it by the scruff of the neck.
“Tottenham, if they believe, who knows what they can achieve?”
