Netflix celebrates its biggest ever movie launch with record viewing figures

It was billed as a big joke, but no one’s laughing now.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos was speaking at CES 2016, the mammoth Las Vegas tech show, when he made the announcement in his keynote speech.

Whilst everyone is hailing Making a Murderer as one of the internet streaming website’s most groundbreaking and influential shows, another original production is raking in the views.

According to Sarandos, the Ridiculous 6 is beating all viewing figures for any movie on the service.

The comedy, starring Adam Sandler, Terry Crews, Harvey Keitel, Julia Jones, Luke Wilson, John Turturro and Danny Trejo, cost $60m to make but is reaping rewards in terms of views.

“The Ridiculous 6…in the first 30 days on Netflix it’s been the most-watched movie in the history of Netflix,” said Sarandos. “It’s also enjoyed a spot at No 1 in every territory we operate in, and in many of them it’s still No 1.”

But not everyone is impressed. The movie currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of…0%. As we said, no one’s laughing now…even at the gags.
