Maddison and Fikayo Tomori are set to miss out
James Maddison is set to be one of those that misses out on a place in the England squad as Gareth Southgate prepares to name to the 26 players he will take to the World Cup.
Maddison has been one of the most in-form players in the Premier League however Southgate has opted not to take the Leicester City midfielder.
Fikayo Tomori is also reportedly set to be one of those missing out, with Arsenal defender Ben White expected to get the nod instead.
Another one of those missing out will be Chelsea’s Reece James. The full-back recently posted a statement on social media confirming that he wouldn’t be fit enough in time for the tournament.
He said: “Devastated. “The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible. I’ve worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and truly believed I could help the team.
“There was risk on both sides, but it was one I was willing to take. Good luck to the boys. I’ll be back soon. Stay safe and sending love.”

Kyle Walker meanwhile has been deemed fit enough to secure his place on the plane and will be joined by his fellow Manchester City teammate Kalvin Phllips despite only featuring twice since joining from Leeds United in the summer.
England will fly out to Qatar on Tuesday November 15 before they prepare to take on Iran in their opening group stage game on Monday November 21.
The Three Lions will also face the USA and Wales in their other group stage fixtures.
