Alex Teixeira would be just what Liverpool need.
Jurgen Klopp has been quiet enough during his first January transfer window with the Reds.
The German has brought in Stephen Caulker on loan and teenage midfielder Marko Grujić was bought for £5.6m but loaned back to Red Star Belgrade to the end of this season. The inactivity has driven some Liverpool fans to distraction.
However, all that may be about to change.
The Times are reporting that Liverpool have tabled a €32m (around £25m) bid for Teixeira. Reds chief executive Ian Ayre is said to have flown to Florida to meet with Shakthar Donetsk officials about the attacking midfielder, who has scored 15 times in 22 games this season.
The Ukrainian side are said to be holding out for €50m [£38.5m] but, in all likelihood, meet Liverpool in the middle.
The Teixeira gazumping will come as a blow to Chelsea fans but there is a soothing, Brazilian balm on the way.
Guus Hiddink has reportedly okay’d the club to finalise the £8m transfer of former AC Milan player Alexandre Pato.
One player said to be packing up and preparing to leave Milan is Inter defender Nemanja Vidic. The Serie A side terminated the Serbian’s contract and he is on the look-out for a club.
That club, were he really desperate to get return to England, may be Aston Villa. The Sun claim Villa are in talks with the former Manchester United defender about getting him in for the rest of the 2015/16 campaign.
Elsewhere, The Star believe Arsenal are close to the £37m signing of Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka. The 23-year-old may not leave Borussia Monchengladbach until the summer, however.
