History is on Leicester’s side in their title bid

Tom Victor

We’ve been waiting months for Leicester City’s title bid to fall apart, but what if the unthinkable happens?

Well it turns out we shouldn’t even be that surprised if the Foxes cling on to top spot for the rest of the season, now that they have put themselves in pole position.

In fact, it’s been more than a decade since the team in their position at the end of January failed to lift the Premier League trophy.

The last team to lead at this juncture and fail to clinch victory was Manchester United, in the 2003/04 season.

Despite Arsenal going the whole campaign unbeaten, Sir Alex Ferguson’s team was a point clear going into February 2004, albeit having played a game more than their nearest rivals.

Can Leicester hold on? You wouldn’t bet against them now.
