Hislop collapsed during coverage of Real Madrid vs AC Milan live on air
Shaka Hislop has updated fans on his health after he collapsed live on air on Sunday night.
Hislop was working for ESPN as part of their live coverage of Real Madrid’s pre-season friendly against AC Milan in California but fell unconscious after stumbling and falling to the ground during a pre-match interview before the game.
Dan Thomas, who was working alongside Hislop, immediately called for assistance before the channel cut to a commercial break.
Thomas did provide viewers with an update later in the programme, reporting that Hislop had been taking to hospital and was “conscious” and “talking”.
Now the former West Ham and Newcastle goalkeeper has updated fans himself and appeared to be in good sprits.
Shared by the ESPN Twitter account, he said: “Well, that was awkward.
“What a 24 hours this has been. Listen, every so often life gives you a moment to pause, and this was mine.
“There is so much I have to be thankful for. My wife, kids, family, loved ones, friends, people that I’ve shared a space with over the years but have lost touch with for whatever reason – who have reached out either directly or indirectly. Thank you.
“My response now has to be to seek out the best medical opinion that I can get and listen to what my doctors have to say.”
He then continued: “In closing, I’d like to say thanks to Dan [Thomas] and the ESPN family, the camera operators, the medical staff at the Rose Bowl who responded in the way that they did and afforded me the care that I got. Thank you.
“I’m looking forward to getting back and doing what I enjoy doing most. See you in a bit.”
