But William Hill have found another solution – and one that doesn’t require an elaborate cover story.
Transfer Deadline Disguise looks just like a bog-standard Excel document, but it features real-time updates on the latest transfer stories.
William Hill have curated a list of journalists, broadcasters and official club accounts, from whom they pull in Twitter updates.
Among the 200 names to feature are Gary Lineker, Chris Kamara, and – of course – Jim White.
And to avoid being caught, you can even tap the toolbar to bring up a fake ‘Excel not responding’ screen to throw your boss off the scent.
