Manchester United set to miss out on Mathieu Debuchy

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Mathieu Debuchy appear to be dead in the water.

With Louis van Gaal missing a number of full backs through injury, reports earlier on Deadline Day suggested that United were plotting a move for the Arsenal man.

Debuchy, who has not been able to hold down his place in the Arsenal team since coming back from injury, is desperate for first team football so he can force his way into the France squad for this summer’s European Championships.

The Frenchman, who used to play for Newcastle, rejected a chance to move to Sunderland earlier in the day, while the Daily Star report that Arsene Wenger has blocked a potential deal with United.

It is now expected that Debuchy will return to his native France, with Bordeaux said to be close to completing a deal.
