Ryan Giggs missed Manchester United’s win over Stoke because of family illness

Kevin Beirne

It looks like Ryan Giggs is staying put for now.

The rumour mill went into overdrive after Giggs missed Manchester United’s 3-0 defeat of Stoke City on Tuesday night.

The Welsman’s absence led to speculation that he was off to take the Celtic job, but that doesn’t appear to be the case after it was reported that United’s assistant manager was a no-show because of a family illness.

Giggs missed one of his team’s most adventurous displays of the season after they scored two first-half goals through Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial.

Wayne Rooney then added a third as the pressure was eased somewhat on Louis van Gaal.
