Last summer’s huge world record bid for Neymar came from Manchester United, the player’s father has confirmed.
Neymar Sr had already mentioned that Real Madrid were not the club to have offered close to £145m for the player, but now it has emerged that United were the ones chasing the Brazilian.
Speaking to Spanish radio station COPE, he confirmed the €190m bid came from Old Trafford, but said his son remains happy at Barcelona.
It suggests the summer rumours – that United had a bid for the player knocked back in the summer – were true.
Neymar has scored 21 goals for Barcelona this season, just two shy of Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial’s combined total, so one suspects he could have made a big difference to the Premier League’s fifth-placed team.
