Here we go again. After another Premier League defeat left Manchester United’s hopes of finishing in the top four in tatters, even more stories linking Louis van Gaal with an Old Trafford exit have surfaced.
Predictably, Jose Mourinho’s name features prominently in the back pages of Monday’s papers, with The Sun claiming he could be in charge before United’s league clash with Arsenal later this month.
But perhaps the most telling sign that Louis van Gaal is about to leave United comes from a different report in the same paper, claiming he and his wife have just signed up for a new home with a letting contract that would allow them to leave immediately.
Van Gaal has reportedly struck a deal to rent an apartment in Bowdon but has refused to commit to renting the property for six months.
This means that the Dutchman will have to pay more than the advertised £3,000 a month rent, with The Sun claiming he will pay £4,500.
Could it be a sign that van Gaal isn’t expecting to be sticking around much longer? Possibly, but we’re not sure many United fans will be rushing out to buy their Jose Mourinho scarves on the strength of it.
It could also be a simple short-term move while he finds a more permanent place of residence.
