If only the facepalm emoji was already here…
It turns out that we (and probably you) have been using emojis wrong all this time.
According to Wired, ‘guidelines’ released by the Unicode Consortium – who design smartphone emojis – indicate that some of the most popular characters don’t actually mean what people think they do.
This document from Unicode explains it all in far greater detail, but it turns out that many popular emoji – even the likes of happy face, angry face and sleepy face – are not what we think they are.
This, for example, is not crying face…
This is not angry face…
And this is not shocked face…
We’d use an emoji to sum up our reaction, but we probably wouldn’t pick the right one…
