Just as Arsenal welcome back one of their England internationals, another could be out for the remainder of the season.
The North London club have barely finished celebrating Danny Welbeck’s goalscoring return against Leicester City, only to learn that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain may face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Oxlade-Chamberlain went for a scan after the Champions League first-leg defeat to Barcelona, after being withdrawn for Theo Walcott early in the second half.
The Daily Mirror claim the midfielder left the Emirates Stadium on crutches, and is at risk of months out with an ankle injury.
The former Southampton man was out of action with a hamstring problem earlier in the season, but was beginning to set himself up for a potential starting place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for Euro 2016.
But now it is feared he could miss the tournament entirely, if the fresh injury is as serious as some fear.
England are already in danger of missing out on the services of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s club team-mate Jack Wilshere, who is yet to play a domestic game this season, so Hodgson will hope the 22-year-old recovers in time for the summer showpiece.
The injury is of more immediate concern to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who could be without the player for important upcoming matches against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
