The World Cup could finally be returning to England

JOE

FA chairman Greg Dyke has indicated that England could now bid for a World Cup, in the wake of Gianni Infantino becoming the new president of FIFA.

Describing Infantino as a chairman that the FA “can trust”, Dyke suggested that the idea of hosting the 2030 World Cup tournament could be something that is a possibility.

“This is a new day, a new dawn. I think we will certainly try to win some tournaments,” Dyke said during an interview with the BBC.

“[The World Cup in] 2026 will go to North America, but we will maybe go for 2030.”

England has not staged the tournament since 1966, the only time they have won the competition. Having made a bid for the 2018 bid, the tournament was awarded to Russia on the same day that Qatar was chosen to host it in 2022.
