Steven Gerrard Liverpool coaching return seems even more likely after latest claims

Tom Victor

Steven Gerrard might have played his last game for Liverpool, but the former club captain seems set for a return in a coaching capacity – if the Reds want him.

The 35-year-old is currently plying his trade in MLS with the LA Galaxy, but is thought to have his eyes on a return to England when his contract runs out at the end of this season.

And The Sun quotes a source close to the former England midfielder as saying “he’d love a coaching role at Liverpool” and will “100%” return when his time in the US is up.

Gerrard made more than 500 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, and won the FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup and Champions League in his time with the club.

He returned to train with the club during the MLS off-season, and donned a Liverpool shirt for the first time since leaving Anfield when he turned out for a legends XI in Australia.

The veteran has not confirmed his plans beyond the current MLS campaign, but retirement and a move into coaching would not come as a surprise.

He has already hinted at retirement, and few would begrudge him hanging up his boots after a long and memorable career.
