Fighters are still going to cut weight for bouts but at least the cuts won’t be as drastic and dangerous
Starting at UFC 200, fighters must start the week of a bout no more than 8% heavier than the weight class they are competing in.
The promotion is seeking to improve fighter safety and cut out the extreme cases of dehydration that do nothing for a combatants health going into a contest.
That means, for example, were Conor McGregor to defend his featherweight [145lb] belt later this year, he must weigh no more than 158lbs on the Monday of his bout.
Similarly, Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier will contest the light heavyweight [210lb] strap at UFC 200. Neither man should weigh more than 223lbs six days out from the fight. As UFC 200 is the first event the new measures will feature in, neither Jones or Cormier would be severely sanctioned.

The UFC, during fight week, will also monitor daily weight, daily vitals and hydration levels. Fighters dipping below safe levels face the sanction of being pulled from their bouts.
UFC 199 will also give fighters the option of weighing in at their hotel on the morning before the event. This is in conjunction with the California State Athletic Commission as the event is being held in the State.
Nevada’s State Athletic Commission has not yet brought in similar requirements for any of the UFC’s fights in Las Vegas.
