For an unpopular man, Jose Mourinho was a mightily popular man.

The Manchester United manager-to-be was in high demand around Europe before agreeing personal terms with the Red Devils on Tuesday night.

Despite being sacked for the second time by Chelsea after failing to get their title retention bid off the ground before the turn of the year, Mourinho was top of the wishlist for five top clubs, according to The Sun.

The report claims that the 53-year-old turned down Arsenal, Roma, Everton and returns to former clubs Real Madrid and Inter Milan to sign for United, the confirmation of which is expected in the next 24 hours.

Mourinho has been linked with the Manchester United position ever since Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and it comes as no surprise to learn that ‘The Special One’ rejected all comers as he finally gets the chance to manage the club that has fascinated him for so long.

Arsenal though? Wow. Imagine how that would have gone down with Arsene Wenger?
