Fans react to Spurs playing home games at Wembley next season

Ben Kenyon

Things are looking up for Tottenham Hotspur right now.

Mauricio Pochettino has assembles a squad that could be challenging for the Premier League title again, they’re building a new 61,000-seater stadium and they’re back in the promised land of the Champions League.

It’s going to be an exciting old year for the White Hart Lane faithful.

Except they won’t be watching Spurs challenging on the European front at WHL.

The North London club has announced home Champions League fixtures will be played at the home of English football for the 2016/17 season.

Spurs are expected to play their Champions League home games at Wembley and there is also an option to play Premier League and cup games at the 90,000-capacity national stadium during the 2017/18 season.

Spurs’ new £400m stadium is expected to be completed by the 2018/19 stadium.

The club explained the decision on Twitter…

Chairman Daniel Levy said: “Playing at Wembley Stadium will mean that we can continue to accommodate all of our existing season ticket holders.

“Our season ticket waiting list is over 50,000 so this now also offers us a great opportunity to provide more of our supporters with a chance to see the team play live during our Champions League campaign.”

The news will probably frustrate some fans of London rivals Chelsea as the club also had designs of playing fixtures at Wembley as reconstruction work begins on Stamford Bridge.

Football fans reacted to the news of Spurs at Wembley as you might expect…
