The transfer window is opening soon as agents and clubs begin their intricate discussions about their summer targets.

There’s bound to be some expensive new signings announced over the next few weeks, but we can already predict the sagas that are going to dominate the news throughout the summer.

It seems inevitable that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will finally reach his final form as he moves to Man United, while Juan Mata will be eventually shown the door by Jose Mourinho after months of the Portuguese pretending the diminutive playmaker is indispensable to his plans.

While those transfers would no doubt be big, what about a real blockbuster? It’s been seven years since Real Madrid prised Cristiano Ronaldo away from Manchester United for a then-record fee of £80m. Sure, there have been some big moves since then (such as Gareth Bale’s £85m move to Madrid) but we haven’t had a true earth-shaker of a transfer since then.

So how much would one of these cost? Well, as you might imagine, a hell of a lot of money according to our estimates.

But the people at the CIES Football Observatory have attempted a more scientific approach by actually attaching a potential fee to who they have decided occupy the position of the 20 most valuable players in world football.

And Tottenham fans might be happy to see their own Harry Kane come in at 5th, apparently worth over €31.7m (£25m) more than former Spur Gareth Bale (11th), while Dele Alli (14th) is also valued higher than his international teammate Raheem Sterling (16th).
