Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s latest contract offer could see him made a king

No, seriously...

Simon Lloyd

As we all know, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is on the move this summer.

The Swedish striker has left Paris Saint-Germain, marking his last game at the Parc des Princes last month with a typically modest message…

Of course, despite what the tweet may say, Zlatan wasn’t *actually* a ‘king’ when he arrived in the French capital. But if he does fancy the idea of becoming a royal, we might be seeing the 34-year-old plying his trade in the fourth tier of German football next year.

With Ibrahimovic joining up with the Sweden squad for Euro 2016, Rot-Weiss Oberhausen have made an unusual offer to try and tempt him to western Germany.

According to the club, if the striker agrees to sign a two-year deal with them, the city would introduce its own monarchy, making him its head. Added to this, they’ve also promised to rename a local beer after him and reopen a local swimming pool – closed for over two decades – exclusively for his use.

As much as we’d love to think this is nothing more than a piss-take, the club’s president seemed deadly serious when speaking to German broadcaster Sport1.

“In a football province like Oberhausen, there are a few things which other places wouldn’t have,” Hajo Sommers explained.

“If he wants to expand his horizons, let him come.”

With Jose Mourinho reportedly interested in bringing Zlatan to Old Trafford, it remains to be seen if Manchester City Council would be willing to offer the Swede a similar title to help United tie up a deal.
