Fan footage shows even better angle of THAT Messi free kick

He's not human

Lionel Messi is officially the highest scorer in the history of the Argentinian national team.

The 28-year-old (who turns 29 on Friday) passed out the legendary Gabriel Batistuta with a superbly struck free kick on Tuesday night, giving Messi a total of 55 international goals.

Quite frankly, it was one of the most beautiful free kicks we’ve ever seen. And even though it helped lead Argentina to a 4-0 route of their American hosts, fans of the US appreciated its beauty too.

It’s hardly surprising to discover that as the world’s greatest player lined up his free kick from just outside the box that fans in the stands began to record the moment in anticipation of something special. But we doubt they expected to see something as mind-blowingly perfect as what they got.

For as good as the broadcast angles of the goal were, there’s something great about being given a fan’s view of such a ridiculous strike. And there are many to choose from.

Messi and co now await the result of the other semi-final between holders Chile and Colombia, as they look to end their 23-year long trophy drought which has seen them go without a major title since the 1993 Copa America.
