A lot of you will agree with this.
If you’re English, there’s no doubt you’re hurting after Monday night’s result. Yes, it really happened. Iceland really beat England.
And while English pundits tried their best to make sense of the defeat, across the water in Ireland the RTÉ studio were all too happy to dissect and analyse England’s dismal performance against Iceland.
The Republic of Ireland bowed out of the tournament with grace having fallen short against their last 16 opposition. They were unable to make their early lead from the penalty spot count as they were eventually beaten 2-1.
England, on the other hand, were disgraced having fallen short against their last 16 opposition. They were unable to make their early lead from the penalty spot count as they were eventually beaten 2-1.
Dietmar Hamann knows a thing or two about what’s required to make a great team at international football and the 2002 World Cup finalist didn’t hold back in his scathing criticism of English football and the myth surrounding the Premier League as ‘the greatest league in the world’.
The former Liverpool and Bayern Munich midfielder reckons that “the Premier League is average” and that they’ve “sold a Skoda for a Lamborghini for the last 15 years”.

But Hamann wasn’t done there, as he went on to label the Premier League “a fraud” and imply that English players should thank God every night for their nationality allowing them to demand world-class wages despite being just above average.
