Memphis Depay documents Manchester United’s unscheduled landing in China

Bad weather meant the plane didn't make it to Beijing

Manchester United’s pre-season tour hasn’t been smooth sailing by any means.

The first game of United’s trip to China saw them well beaten by a scoreline of 4-1 to Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai.

While new manager Jose Mourinho won’t take pre-season results too seriously, he will want to regain some pride when the Red Devils take on arch-rivals Manchester City in Beijing on Monday.

The squad left for the Chinese capital this weekend to prepare for the “friendly” derby but found their progress halted by unfavourable weather.

United winger Memphis Depay revealed that the plane carrying the players and staff was forced to make an unscheduled landing at an airport, the location of which he was unsure of.

Mourinho will be hoping that his luck soon turns around, particularly when it comes to the pursuit of a certain Paul Pogba.

United have seemingly kept the number six shirt free for the midfielder, if fans’ theories are to be believed, but a big-money deal is reportedly being held up by the fee owed to the Frenchman’s agent, Mino Raiola.
