Real Madrid signal end to De Gea pursuit by giving Keylor Navas the number one jersey

JOE

It looks likeĀ David de Gea’s dream of playing for Real Madrid next season isĀ over.

Talks between Manchester United and Spanish club have been deadlocked for weeks now, with Manchester United insistingĀ upon 29-year-old Sergio Ramos asĀ part of a deal.

Now it seems that Real Madrid have conceded defeat by awarding Costa Rican Keylor Navas their number one jersey. New manĀ Kiko Casilla will don his old number 13.

The news in itself would not be a clear indication that interest in De Gea had been shelved, but United’s Ed Woodward briefed the press this week that there was definitely no deal without Ramos.

The Old Trafford CEO told journalists that United would be prepared to let the player leave for free at the end of next season, and that nowĀ looks the most likely option.

Real’s mouthpiece publication Marca also claimed a few days ago that Los Blancos would now hold on until next summer to secure the services of the star keeper.

There is still a chance that a late bid mayĀ come in, but unless Real budge on Ramos, it seems likely that De Gea will have to knuckle atĀ United for this coming season.
