There we were, naively thinking we were all set for a quiet end to the transfer window.
To put in mildly, it’s been an eventful summer for Premier League clubs. With transfer kitties lined with money from a new TV deal, we’ve seen players switch clubs for truly incredible (and sometimes ridiculous) fees.
With days to go before the window closes, reports on Tuesday night implied there was at least one more big deal concerning a Premier League club, with David Luiz rumoured to be on the cusp of a return to Stamford Bridge.
It’s been two years since the Brazilian left Chelsea for Paris Saint-Germain for an incredible £50m. Late on Tuesday evening, reports suggested that Antonio Conte was willing to part with £32m of Roman Abramovic’s cash to bring him back to London.
First appearing in The Daily Mail, Sky Sports News HQ presenter Jim White also added fuel to the fire.

Although some Chelsea supporters were pleased to hear Luiz may be heading back to London, others questioned the club’s transfer policy.

Others simply had an issue with the fact that he wasn’t that good at defending…
Why the hell are we trying to get David luiz back ?! He's just a liability 😩😩

To rival fans, this was simply further evidence that the summer transfer window of 2016 was completely out of control.

Absolutely crazy if Chelsea re-sign David Luiz from PSG. What it is it with ex-Benfica players and having to recall them? Great story.

David Luiz would be the worst deal of the window imo, can't believe Chelsea are that stupid.
