Ashton Kutcher has launched an online petition for retail stores to provide baby changing facilities for men, as well as those currently available to women.
The American actor recently became a parent with his wife and former 70s Show co-star Mila Kunis, and has grown increasingly frustrated at not being able to perform the simple act of changing his daughter’s nappy in public.
“Almost all public changing tables are in women’s bathrooms, which makes it nearly impossible to find a table that’s accessible to dads…[fathers] want to participate equally in the child care process and our society should support that,” he said.
Kutcher has focused specifically on US retail giants Target and Costco in his online campaign, and hopes that other companies will follow in providing universally accessible changing tables in store.
The Two and a Half Men star sees the current lack of amenities as gender stereotyping and wants stores to recognise that the times they are a-changin’ – and so are the dads.
