Sir Matt Busby’s family may no longer have their original directors’ box seats, but the lack of a plaque dedicated to the legendary manager seems to have only been a short-term thing.

Fans hit out at the club after reports in the Manchester Evening News revealed a plaque dedicated to the Busby family (not, as originally thought, to Sir Matt directly) had been removed.

Others rushed to the club’s defence, noting how happy the family were with the new season tickets they had been given in place of the seats originally given to the former boss’ children.

And now the Daily Mail reports that United last week commissioned a new plate, which will be placed in the seat previously occupied by the man who delivered the club’s first European silverware.

The newly commissioned plaque honours Sir Matt directly, and will surely be seen by many as a fitting tribute to one of the club’s most successful and best-loved former managers.

The Scotsman, who died in 1994, spent more than 20 years at the helm, and helped return the club to glory after the 1958 Munich air crash.

He won five league titles with the club, as well as two FA Cups, five charity shields and that European Cup win over Benfica – the first by an English club.
