Arsenal clear the way for Wenger to break the bank for a new striker

Arsene Wenger has been told that money is no object in his pursuit of a new striker.

The Arsenal board have given their manager the green light to break the bank for a new frontman, according to the Daily Mail, with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and Edinson Cavani all linked with the club.

Mesut Ozil, who cost £42.5m in 2013, is Arsenal’s current record signing, and £31.7m Alexis Sanchez is the only other player to have cost the club more than £20m.

Arsenal have also been linked with a cut-price £8m move for Juventus striker Fernando Llorente, who is also thought to be a target for Manchester United.

Petr Cech is Arsenal’s only major signing this summer, arriving from Chelsea for just shy of £11m.
